Toney Mugo

As a child growing up in Kenya, I was fortunate to attend a well regarded Armed Forces School and later attended an all Science Boarding Secondary School .

Both Schools professed a strong education and ethical Philosophy that has remained with me throughout my life. It’s this foundation along with the support of my family, educators and friends that has allowed me to eventually embrace my dream of becoming an artist – ” The freedom that great discipline eventually provides.”

The Year 1994 was one of the best years of my life – this is when i got exposed and embraced a new canvas ” Glass” ….I started experimenting with this new medium by immersing in the art.

I started my studies at the glass gallery under the Tutourage of Phillipier Simpson the then Founder and Owner.

As an artist, elements of light, colour and space have always fascinated me. I continued to experiment with the medium… Intellectual light that makes thinking possible is analogous to the visual light that makes vision possible… between 1998 and the year 2023, I studied Contemporary Glass Movements in Europe. My Education included a practticum course at The STAATLICHE GLASFACHSCHULE HADAMAR ERWIN STEIN SCHULE – Seminars with GLASS MEISTER HEIKO HIBY IN WUPPERTAL GERMANY and also guest artist SHIRLEY PALMER in CARDIFF ENGLAND.

Today, my work is marked by freshness of Imagery, a full palette of colour, and a sophisticated treatment of light… The glass works – A fusion of both hot and cold techniques enliven both public and private buildings around the country.

THE INTEREST IS OVERWHELMING AND THE CHALLENGE TO KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND.

I HAVE FOUND MY CALLING: I LOVE WHAT I DO AND AM PASSIONATE ABOUT IT.
